ECONOMY SHOP VOLUNTEERS

Thank you for your interest in becoming an Economy Shop Volunteer. The Economy Shop is a 100% owned and operated, fully volunteer-administered thrift organization. This includes the Board of Directors, all of whom serve in a strictly voluntary capacity and receive no financial compensation. The Shop has been established at this location since 1948 and continues its longstanding commitment to community service. All profits generated by the Shop are distributed to qualified non-profit organizations within the Claremont area.

While the Economy Shop has several volunteer activities, most of the volunteers spend their time working in the Shop for about 4 1/2 hours per month. The Shop is open during the months of September through May on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 AM to 4 PM and closes for the summer. Volunteers generally work one shift per month, either 9:45 AM to 1 PM, or 12:45 PM to 4:15 PM.

The activities include helping customers with their purchases as a cashier and bagging the sold items. All of the items sold in the Shop are generally in exceptionally good, almost new (sometimes unused), and always clean condition. We believe we are the “cleanest” thrift shop in the area and, as noted, we have been located here since 1948—which speaks for itself.

Other activities include merchandising (pricing and displaying the products), Shop maintenance, receiving donations, and other activities on an as-needed basis. Often, the volunteers are needed for Monday and Tuesday prep-work when the Shop is closed.

Over the long history, many of the volunteers have continued on to become Economy Shop Board Members (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Shop Manager) or perform other primary responsibilities like Volunteer Chairperson and/or Maintenance Manager.

We look forward to you helping us to help others.
